After a delay of just over a year, the recording sessions for Cindy Scott's Life Beats EP finally got under way yesterday.

Two mixes, a vocal mix and instrumental mix of Never Can Say Goodbye, were recorded at The United States of Media in Birmingham, England. Produced by John Purser & yours truly! The background vocals feature 3 very special ladies and this is without doubt Driving Wheel Records best ever production. We are now up in Top Gear.

Well I have been busy these past few weeks, even if I do say so myself. I'm listening to the first mixdown of The Soul of Cindy Scott. 17 tracks in all and a running length of nearly 70 minutes. The album contains remastered tracks from The Loving Country 1 & 2 as well as previously unreleased recordings.

Check out pages 142-144 of the latest issue of Record Collector magazine to read a brilliant piece about Cindy Scott's involvement with Ernie Terrell's The Heavyweights. Cindy became lead singer in 1970 after Jean Terrell left her brother's group to join The Supremes as a replacement for Diana Ross. Pre-Production moved to MPM Studios in Walsall, England on 7 August 2009. Work also commenced on a brand new version of Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, produced by Paul Shepperd, the first in a series of new mixes planned to take place at MPM over the coming months. This new mix is slightly slower than the Loving Country original and has a distinct 70's groove. I feel so happy about this track, I can't stop playing it.

A new version of Remember Me, featuring previously unused vocal takes and additional background vocals was completed yesterday. The mix, which started life way back in December 2004, had been gathering dust in my archives until just a few weeks ago. Also filed away, abandoned but not forgotten, was an unfinished recording of Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing. This version, if completed, would have made it onto the final mixdown of The Loving Country 2. But due to the various financial constraints at the time, the original demo was remastered and included on the album instead. Now several years later, Remember Me (Diva Mix) is complete, with a new 8 bar intro and added zing. Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing is very close to how I originally intended it to be, and with added zest, all thanks to John Purser, producer and owner of The United States of Media studio in Birmingham, England.

In Love Maybe - the first single to be taken from The Soul of Cindy Scott. In Love Maybe was originally recorded as a demo in Los Angeles, way back in 1983. The first completed version appeared on The Loving Country 2, Cindy Scott's 2nd studio album for Driving Wheel Records, some 21 years later. The phrase The Soul of Cindy Scott has been in my head for quite a few years, as a possible title for a 'best of' collection. My original idea was to have a CD ready for release by the autumn of 2008, to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of my label Driving Wheel Records. But with the best of intentions, my plans got slightly side-tracked, caused mainly by a lack of self-motivation, funds and spare time. However, I'm determined that this CD will see the light of day. A release date is now being planned for mid-2010. Sorry if this seems so far away. After a quick delve into my archive of both completed and uncompleted recordings, I was surprised to discover that 9 tracks were already suitable candidates. However, not all will make it onto the final album line-up, especially now that more recordings are in the pipeline. Judging by the tracks recorded so far, one thing is for sure, The Soul of Cindy Scott will be a tour de force. The wheel's are back in motion!

This is my first ever blog, so please bear with me as I learn all about blogger.com. There are two main reasons behind my idea for this blog. To begin with, I wanted to reveal my plans regarding Cindy Scott's future releases, as and when they happen. My first project is a 'Best Of' compilation. The album is still very much in the early stages of production, though some tracks have been completed. Also there isn't much space on the official website front page to insert a great deal of text, so I thought a 'blog' would be an ideal way to get the news out and about. Secondly, I would dearly love to reconnect with my Internet pals from the past and hopefully make some new friends along the way.
